Bee Dew Laboratories

Bee Dew Laboratories, owned by Vivian Nash, was located on E. Forest at the corner of Hastings Street. Originally from the South, Nash attended Spelman College and graduated from Grady Hospital in nursing (Atlanta, Georgia). Upon arriving in Detroit in search of nursing employment, she encountered difficulty securing work in her field. This prompted her to venture into cosmetics manufacturing instead. Starting with just one clerk, Nash eventually expanded her business to employ hundreds of individuals manufacturing her cosmetics line. In 1933, she inaugurated her first beauty school, Luxuro Beauty School, at Forest and St. Antoine. Three years later, she relocated it to Forest and Hastings, renaming it the Bee Dew Beauty School.
